The following notes are part of a conversation between the ocean and Tucker on how to update the website using her code generating database. Eventually this will become the authoring manual.

Connect from FM Pro, Open Remote File,
view "favorite hosts"
Add fmnet:/74.94.165.57/webSiteBuilder_PublicVR in bits
Name it Mac Mini

We still do not have an open-source way to ftp from inside up to the webserver.

The sub-directory name in the database should match the subdirectory name in PHP.

To add a new subarea in pompeii (e.g. Wellhouse):

In the site structure (the collection of PHP folders):
* Locate the parent in the website code, e.g. "tf" for Triangulr...
* Create a new folder under tf, call it wh, by copying an exising one
and renaming. That will carry along 7 docs, one which we will change.
* optional: you can change the name of the pulldown list
* edit the control file, optSelect.txt
* change all occurences of the old path/area's shortname (e.g. vi) to
the new name (e.g. wh)
* open v_ctf.php
* Duplicate one of the 2nd level elseifs
* Change the copy's shortname to the new entry's in two place in elseif

In the database:
* "Add Page" command in the middle column
(the process for major areas is a little ifferent. You have to
edit the v_caps.php folder)
* Open it for editing by pressing the pencil
* OR you could duplicate an exiting one
! You need 7 views for each area, one for each area.
because each view is a document.
* In the view editor dialogue, click "Export to Web Site"
* It will generate the txt file you need, and put it on desktop.
* Upload it to the PHP code for the site. (We will automate this later.)
Make sure the file is not open in an editor.
Make sure you don't overwrite these files if you work on
multiple articles. Best to keep seaprate files for each view.

"west" is the current template for full fucntionality. Derek is using that one
for testing.

Every paragph has a link based on the paragraph number.

I figured out that to add a new entry to the menus on the left side, you have to edit the 05_<number><area name>.php files. I edited 05_04tf.php, adding "Well House" to the level two links, and it worked. Pretty cool!

However, the text file I had created for "Well House" and added to my new "wh" folder had got whacked somehow along the way. Something about how the text file got transferred.

I was not able to make Well House a lower level item, under "Southern Area".

Hyperlink insertion does not seem to work, but I'm probably just doing it wrong. I highlight a bit of text in the paragraph, click the link builder, build the link, but then there is no change to the text. The link does not appear. I am able to build links manually, though.

Ah, copy first. Then click the "insert link" button.
